Scan an ID barcode and the fields will be populated by the information encoded on the barcode. The Green frame indicates the ID holder is 21 and over.
FI Helper places the information extracted from the barcode into a simple report that can be emailed in .pdf format. Alternatively, FI Helper can simply email the extracted information to an email account.
When age checker is enabled, FI helper will frame the screen in red if the ID card holder is under 18, yellow if between 18 and 21, and green if 21 and older.

FI Helper works by scanning PDF-417 barcodes which are standard on most state issued IDs in the USA. Generally, all the information on the ID card is encoded into the barcode.
Barcodes must be in focus and there must be adequate light for the camera to pick up the barcode. For best results hold the camera several inches above the barcode and move it in slowly unti the barcode comes into focus. It might take a minute or two of practice before you get the hang of it. Sometimes it is easiest to scan the barcode while it is resting on a flat surface.
The barcode may not be properly formatted, which would indicate a fake ID or that the ID card issuer does not follow the AAMVA standard.
If some or all information is incorrect please go to the home screen and push the error button to send us an email with the data from the ID which will be inserted automatically into the email's body. Also please type the name of the state that issued the ID in the email or subject line. We will then review the data and update the software accordingly.
FI helper is designed to extract data from ID barcodes, not to check for fake IDs. If an ID is fake but has the correct data encoded in its barcode then that data will be extracted. If the barcode scan does not extract any information there is a chance the ID could be fake. Keep in mind that it is not too difficult to generate barcodes and it is entirely possible that a fake ID will scan properly.
The report page is generated based on the data fields from the FI screen. You can email the report in .PDF format if desired from the report screen. Otherwise the data from the ID can be emailed directly from the FI screen.

This privacy policy governs your use of the software application App Name (“FI Helper”) for mobile devices that was created by J2 Mobile Apps.
This App utilizes the user’s geolocation to record location information for the user’s personal use only in preparing field interview reports. This App also scans information from government issued identification cards for the personal use of the user to assist in preparing field interview reports. No information gathered by this app is transmitted to the developer during normal operation of the App. Information may be transferred to the developer for software testing and debugging purposes only. This happens if deemed necessary and with the consent of the individual user. Any information transferred to the developer will be retained only as long as needed to make the necessary improvements to the App.
The user has the option of supplying their name and email address for operation of the App. This information is voluntary and not required to use the App. A valid email address is required in order for the user to email information to their personal or business accounts.
This App will collect the user’s location only if this option is enabled inside the App. The location information will not be used or retained by the developer for any purpose. The location information is gathered solely for the convenience of the user in preparing field contact reports.
If enabled by the user, the App will use GPS technology as available on the user’s device to determine your current location. Location information will be used solely as a convenience to the user and will not be transferred to retained by the developer. The App will not share your current location with other users or partners.
Neither the App nor the developer will share any information obtained with any third parties.
You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network. Additionally location services may be turned off at any time while using the App. No information is transmitted from the device unless the transfer is initiated by the user in the form of an email.
We will retain User Provided data for as long as necessary to debug and improve the App. Any information provided by the user to the developer will be used solely for the purposes of improving the App. No information will be released to third parties.
